Stonecrest, GA - The City of Stonecr
est allocates $500,000 to Georgia Piedmont Technical College, a move aimed at enhancing the local workforce and stimulating economic growth in the region. The funds will be allocated for the purchase of commercial trucks, trailers, and simulators, to be utilized in Georgia Piedmont Technical College's logistics training facility, situated at 6720 Marbut Rd, Stonecrest, GA 30058.
In light of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, these resources will also enable the college to provide internships, scholarships, and workforce training programs, either free of charge or at a discounted rate, to City residents. These initiatives are designed to counteract the adverse economic effects that COVID-19 has had on our local economy.
The allocation of these funds falls under the purview of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), signed into law on March 11, 2021. The ARPA established the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) program, which empowers state and local governments to address the multifaceted impacts of COVID-19 on their communities, residents, and businesses.
The City of Stonecrest, as a recipient of a SLFRF award from the federal government, is actively pursuing projects and activities under ARPA to stimulate economic growth and address employment shortfalls brought about by the pandemic. The City recognizes its advantageous position, with the I-20 corridor connecting it to various environmentally friendly manufacturing plants, such as electric car and battery manufacturing plants, and a solar manufacturing plant. Additionally, the City boasts a significant amount of undeveloped land, making it conducive for economic development aligned with the state's investments in transportation and logistics infrastructure.
The City of Stonecrest has goals of establishing a Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) hub within its boundaries to support the logistics and transportation industries serving the various environmentally friendly manufacturing plants in the state.
In collaboration with Georgia Piedmont Technical College, the City of Stonecrest envisions creating a robust logistics and transportation workforce that can help counteract the negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 public health emergency on the city's residents.
